Young Victorian of the Year 2009
Thom Woodroofe, 20, is the 2009 Young Victorian of the Year and founder of Left Right Think-Tank, Australia’s first independent and non partisan think-tank of young minds. His contribution ranges from being a youth expert consultant to Flamingo International based in Tokyo and on an advisory board to Peace Child International based in London which holds consultative status with the United Nations to being one of the youngest participants at such high-level gatherings as the G20, the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation and the World Economic Forum. He has had the opportunity to speak to audiences such as the White House Press Corps at the National Press Club in Washington DC. He currently splits his time between Melbourne and Kuala Lumpur prior to this he was based in San Francisco where he spent time working for both sides of politics: in the US Congress for Democratic Speaker Nancy Pelosi during the inauguration of President Obama, and more recently for Republican Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in California. He is the youngest member of the Australian American Leadership Dialogue. Thom was recently named one of Melbourne’s 100 most influential people and separately one of the region’s leading young people by The Asia Society. He has also been recognized as a Global Changemaker by the British Council and received a Davos Connection Leadership Award as well as a United States Congressional Certificate of Special Recognition. His amazing achievements inspire young adults to reach further and test new boundaries in all aspects.
